As per an article in BYJU’S Exam Prep, around 11.52 lakh applicants applied for the UPSC prelims examination in 2022. Out of these 11 lakh participants, only 10000 make it to the mains. And further only around 1000 get selected for the Civil Services jobs. With this, the success rate in CSE turns out to be only 0.2%, making it the toughest competitive exam in India. But still, it also is the most popular examination in India. Aspirants leave their well-paying jobs and spend years of their lives preparing and clearing this exam. Even then, success is not guaranteed to them, despite making so much of sacrifices. It is surprising as to why students are so obsessed with this exam, and why they even go as far as to ruin their well-established jobs behind this exam. Moreover, the examination process of CSE is very complex. So, it becomes important to know the whole procedure, structure and syllabus of the exam.
