Demystifying the CAT Exam

• The CAT exam is a computer-based test (CBT) conducted in multiple sessions.
• Each section is timed separately, and candidates are not allowed to switch between sections during the test.
• The total duration of the exam is 180 minutes (3 hours), with 60 minutes allotted for each section.

Qualification Criteria:

1. Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum aggregate percentage (usually 50% for general category) from a recognized university or institution. Students who are in the final year of their graduation and are awaiting their results are also eligible to apply.
2. Age Limit: There is no specific age limit for appearing in the CAT exam.
3. Reservation and Eligibility: Reservation policies apply to candidates belonging to scheduled castes (SC), scheduled tribes (ST), other backward classes (OBC), and economically weaker sections (EWS) as per government regulations. The percentage of seats provided to these are 15%, 7.5%, 27% and 10% to SC, ST, OBC and EWS respectively.

1. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC):

• Reading Comprehension passages with questions
• Sentence Correction and Completion
• Para-jumbles and Paragraph Summary
• Vocabulary-based questions (synonyms, antonyms, analogies)

2. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DI & LR):

• Data Interpretation based on graphs, charts, and tables
• Logical Reasoning involving puzzles, seating arrangement, blood relations, etc.

• Clocks, calendars, and cubes
• Venn diagrams and binary logic

3. Quantitative Ability (QA):

• Number System (divisibility, HCF, LCM, remainders, etc.)
